Some people choose a career. For Michael Gunnells, it was simply who he was.
From an early age, Michael was fascinated by how things worked. That curiosity quickly became a passion for building custom trucks, cars, and motorcycles—both for himself and for others—earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship long before diesel became his profession.
Service has always been part of his life. Michael proudly served in the military, worked in law enforcement, and volunteered as a Rescue Diver with the Anderson County Technical Rescue Team, helping others when they needed it most.
About 15 years ago, a friend gave him an opportunity to work on diesel engines. Everything that followed was earned through hands-on experience, hard work, and years of being on call throughout the Southeast.
After 15 years of diesel experience, Michael stepped out in faith and founded Gunnells Services in December 2022.
Gunnells Services didn't begin with a fleet of service trucks or a fully equipped shop.
It began with faith, borrowed trucks, and a green Rubbermaid tote full of tools.
Without insurance on his own truck, Michael borrowed his sons' trucks and went to work—earning one customer at a time and trusting God to provide the next opportunity.
December 2022 — Where it all began.
Just five months later, Gunnells Services had grown enough to insure Michael's own truck.
Applying the first Gunnells Services logo wasn't just adding graphics to a truck. It marked the beginning of a dream becoming reality.
May 31, 2023 — Faith, perseverance, and answered prayers became visible.

After dating for only three months, they were engaged. Four months later, they were married in the living room of Michael's childhood home, surrounded by the people who mattered most.
When Gunnells Services was founded in December 2022, it became more than a business—it became a family mission.
Kim encouraged Michael to believe in himself and take the leap to build something of his own. Together, they stepped forward in faith, trusting God to lead the way.
Today, they continue building Gunnells Services with a shared vision, creativity, commitment, and a passion for serving others.
Michael still approaches every day the same way he did on that first service call—trusting God, working hard, and never forgetting where the journey began.
